Ahoy, Birthday Boy!

6.21.08
Trey had been looking forward to his "Pirate Birthday" for about 2 months now and the day finally arrived. He woke up to streamers in his face as he walked through his doorway to his room. I have carried on the "Sauter Tradition" (my maiden name) and posted little love notes all around the house that said, "We Love You Trey" or "Happy Birthday Trey!" He quickly wanted to change out of his pjs, and look at the pj's he chose! Very appropriate. (Well, at least the bottoms are!) He had to wear his "skull and crossbones" bottoms! This was an early gift he opened. The pirate hat, the pirate sword, and "the little thing you put on your hand" (which would be the hook) as he called it. He was stoked! We then got on with our day, and just as we were getting out the door to Costco, Trey had to use the restroom. As I was lifting him onto the toilet, I threw out my back. This happens about once a year, beginning my Senior year in High School with cheerleading, and it has happened every year since that. This time couldn't have been more "perfect." We went to Costco to gather the food for our BBQ that afternoon, and when we arrived home, my Heaven-Sent mom and little brother Derek were waiting for us. Trey was so excited to see his Grandma Bend and Derek. I was so happy to see their faces. My mom helped us so much with the party. She continues to amaze me! I went a little overboard with the "Skull and Crossbones" theme, because I convinced myself that some pirates are scary, and Trey is TOO young for Pirates of the Carribean. So, I was given the perfect opportunity to purchase everything skull and crossbones related, and enjoyed myself thoroughly! I tried my creative hand at Trey's cupcakes. An inspiration from Sommers sister-in-law Yvonne, who makes the most amazing cupcakes ever. Trey's was supposed to look like "X" marks the spot on an island in the middle of the ocean. Complete with the "Jolly Roger" Pirate flag toothpick (the other side of the flag says "ARGGGGGGG." LOVED IT!) Trey's cupcake was the one with the skull and crossbone candle. (When it got time to blow out his candle, we were in the middle of a windstorm and never did light the candle. He didn't seem to mind a bit!) Talk about trooper, Justin is amazing. Not only did he and our friend Steve Kirkman grill for everyone, Justin also wore a pirate bandanna he cut out for ALL of the kids and wore a Pirate shirt I bought him in Cozumel, but he was also the only adult who attempted the astro water slide. Trey LOVED the ride, and he loves his dad even more!
This was Trey's 1st attempt with a Pinata. Since it was his big day, we let him be the first to take a swing at it. He seemd to catch on pretty quickly, but didn't appreciate the blind fold.

My mom and Angie controlled the little ones at the bottom of the slide who were just a little too nervous to attempt the big slide. They still had a great time splashing in the pool at the bottom.

The Miller Family-As a request from Angie, she asked for a family portrait for her blog from the event. I warned her that Beni is doing something silly in this picture. We love the Millers and really appreciate them coming to Trey's celebration!

The little ones had their option of jumping in our little jump house of playing in a little pool. Some dug in our sandbox and slid down the playstructure's slide. The adults gathered under the Chesley's canapy's and watched their children.

Honestly, Trey spent most of his time with the adults. I was telling Miss Michelle how strange Trey was being, not interacting with the kids. She informed me it was because the adults were the ones with the chips and goodies! True, so true.

We want to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedule to come and celebrate Trey's special day with us. We are so blessed to have so many friends and loved ones who care so much for Trey that they would come and spend their afternoon with us. Thanks to all!
