Easter Program in Paramount
My friend Angie is amazing! She is an author, a college professor, a great friend and even better mother; and now she is an actress!
Her ward performed an Easter Program which led groups of visitors through different rooms, representing the days leading up to Christ's Crucifixion.
Angie was in the last room and she was Mary Magdalen. Talk about emotional! She was amazing and so realistic. It must have taken weeks of preparation and research!
You were amazing Angie!
After the performance, Amy planned a book club outing to Moxie Java for Steamers and Book talk! What a great night! Thanks for planning it Amy and Angie, thanks for the invite. You were the very best out of everyone! Encore!!!
Trip back to Idaho
- 4.20.09
It was so sad leaving Bend! So sad! I felt like we were quite robbed of our vacation, spending 5 of the 9 days with sick Tian, and of those 5 days, 3 of them were either in the hospital OR in a pediatrician's office. I don't think Trey even noticed my absence on those days, which was a blessing!
My mom and Grandma GiGi insisted on me traveling with someone else. There is pretty much nothing from Bend to Nampa, just a few little towns, the biggest being Burns, Oregon (population 3,000) and Ontario, Oregon (population 11,000). If for some reason Tian's bowels began twisting again, I wouldn't trust any of these towns to have a hospital to fit our needs. (In college, some of my classmates took their rotations at Holy Rosary in Ontario, Oregon and would come to class with the craziest stories.) Justin wasn't up for the 10 hour drive, plus missing 1.5 days of work. Understandable. My grandma had suggested my oldest brother Robert for the job of riding with us. I gave it some thought, didn't know what he would think about traveling with us, and finally thought I would give him a call. Without much hesitation, he agreed to ride along with us. We were planning on leaving late Monday afternoon (around 5pm) and then he would ride the Greyhound bus back to Bend the next morning at 6:50am.
Robert arrived at my parents home at about 3pm and entertained Trey while I packed and while Tian slept. After saying a few tearful goodbyes (on my part! When Trey said "goodbye" to Derek and hugged his leg, I got quite teary! Trey loves Derek, to see them play and interact together is so sweet!) we were off. We hadn't even hit Highway 20 (which is only a few miles off my parents road. Highway 20 basically takes you to Ontario, which is about 4 hours from Bend. Give or take a few hours, depending on how many kiddos are in your car!) and Trey had already fallen asleep. I drove, which I think drove Robert NUTS, even though he sworn he wasn't bothered by my driving, and this is ALL that Robert helped me with:
-not even a half hour into our drive, the sun started to bother Tian. I pulled over, and Robert devised this sunshade out of a blanket of Tian's.
-Robert climbed over the back seat for a blanket Trey insisted on having!
-Gave Tian his pacifier on more then one or two occasions. This meant for him to turn around, search the seat OR the car seat for the pacifier.
-When in Burns, Oregon, while I changed a blowout diaper of Tian's Robert played in the N.A.S.T.Y playground of McDonalds and fed Trey his chicken nuggets. (he didn't spoon feed him by any means, but basically made him eat his nuggets. Why wont he ever eat for ME?! HUH?!)
-After changing Tian's blowout at McDonald's, Trey needed to use the restroom. SO, Robert held Tian while I took Trey to the Bathroom!
*When I was driving through Burns alone, it was so crowded and frustrating trying to change Tian's blowout (yes, he has them FREQUENTLY! We have finally realized he was wearing too large of diapers! Go figure!!!) while keeping Trey from touching any dirty object in the stall (which was EVERY object) and then helping Trey with his #2 (sorry, too much information I know, but it is the truth! 3 year olds sometimes still need a little assistance.). SO, Robert was such a huge help!
-While taking Trey to the bathroom, Robert said Tian giggled and smiled the entire time we were away!
-After our gourmet meal at McDonalds, Robert carried out Trey AND my purse, opened my door, the whole nine yards. At this point, I thought to myself, "He is going to make one girl very happy!" I have never really thought of any of my brothers in this way, but this evening, he made me so happy to be his sister, and so happy to have a brother so kind and giving!
-Not even 30 miles away from our home, Tian insisted on drinking a bottle; which meant for us to pull over at a nasty truck stop for about a half hour. Robert didn't seem bothered one bit. I had just learned what a "Lot Lizard" was a week before, so Robert and I were watching out for them! We laughed and laughed about it! We also talked about The Duggars and how crazy their lifestyle is! (Little does Robert know I am a little addicted to their show and think they are somewhat amazing!) Trey also told Robert about Ammon from the Book of Mormon and what an amazing man he was. Ammon is one of Trey's favorite Book of Mormon men these days.
I saw Robert is a whole new light on this trip. We drove for 6 hours (putting us into Nampa well after midnight) chatting, listening to some of his music he found on our satellite radio (the radio station is called "the Joint" and it wasn't all that bad), we listened to our music, Radio Disney (which I thought he would turn over immediately, but I think he kind of liked it! He got a great lesson on Miley Cyrus from Trey!) and then some talk radio shows. His selflessness put my mind and heart at ease as I drove with my two little boys across the state of Oregon. Driving TO Bend didn't seem like that big of deal. I felt confident and strong. But after our whirlwind of events while staying in Bend, my confidence dwindled and I didn't feel as strong. I am a bit disappointed in myself. I want to be able to travel with my boys and not have any hesitations. It will take some time gaining my confidence!
I love you Robert and am so grateful to have a brother like you. Your kindness and selflessness is beyond measure. I hope I can be as giving as you!

Playing with Abbey and Delaney!
The day was spent packing for our trip home and some play with my greatest friend Abbey and her sweet, beautiful, loveable daughter Delaney. Delaney and Trey ran around the yard, played in the pool, jumped on the tramp, and played tag!
Taking turns on the Trampoline-look at the air Delaney got!!!
Follow the Leader
Trey is getting so brave. I was the nervous one watching him attempt this height!
Delaney is so stinkin' cute!
Trey and Delaney play so well together. We only see them a few times a year, and it is as if time hasn't past between these two! Now if they only lived closer! We would be in heaven!
Thank you Abbey and Delaney for spending the morning with us! We love you two!
While the family was at church, Tian and I stayed home and took it easy. The poor guy was feeling better, but not good enough to take him into a public place. I would have been saddened if he would have caught another bug.
We spent the morning on the lawn, enjoying the sun and getting some Vitamin D! I haven't been able to take Tian out, with only a diaper, so this was an exciting day! The weather was warm enough, Tian really enjoyed himself!
I loved seeing his bright white skin and chubby little arms reaching for his pacifier. Since being sick, Tian has enjoyed his pacifier more then ever before! Maybe it helps his ears, who knows!
I love how the hairs on his arms can be seen in the sunlight! So fuzzy and chubby!
kites
After Sunday night dinner with the family, Trey and Derek decided to try out their new Superhero kites they received from the Easter Bunny. There wasn't enough wind, so they decided to run with their kites! Trey took Derek's hand, and they ran, hand in hand, around the yard!
Trey enjoyed also running through the sprinklers from the irrigation lines. He was fearless, even trying to get Derek to join in on the fun!
Movies and Icecream
Movie night on the floor with icecream. Tian fell asleep soundly, so Trey and I got to spend some quality time with a movie! Trey's face just says it all: Icecream, movie, family and fun!
As my mom helped set up for a wedding, my dad, Derek, and I took Trey and Tian to a movie. The movie choices were: 17 Again or the Hannah Montana movie. Trey really likes Zac Efron and secretly wishes his hair could looked like Zac's.
Trey's hair will NEVER look like Zac's, but I guess he can always wish!
When asked what movie he would like to attend, Trey said, "Hannah Montana." Trey knows a thing or two about Hannah Montana, mostly her songs and that her REAL name is Miley Cyrus, but he has never showed interest in her tv show. So, I was pretty surprised he wanted to see her movie. Her movie WAS rated "G" though, so I was happy knowing Trey wouldn't pick up on anything he shouldn't.
Surprisingly, the movie was great! Trey sat through most of the movie, munching on popcorn and hardly making a peep. Tian was a bit restless, but nothing a bottle couldn't cure!
I know my dad wouldn't appreciate me writing this, but at the end of the movie, my dad shed a few tears! The movie's message was sweet; it must have struck a chord with him!!
We have been hearing the "Hoedown Throwdown" song from the movie for quite some time on Radio Disney/Satelite Radio. Trey was excited to see the song performed AND the dance that went along with it.
I looked up the Hoedown Throwdown on You Tube and found the dance steps and music after the movie. I showed the You Tube instructional video to Trey, and after watching the steps twice, I was so surprised at how well he could dance the Hoedown. Next time you see him, you will have to ask him to show you the Hoedown!
If you are wondering what the "Hoedown Throwdown" is, here is the instructional video so you too can dance the hoedown; just like Hannah Montana!
GiGi's got Skills
I don't know how GiGi does it! She has the energy of a 29 year old, and the patience of a saint! While we were in the hospital with Tian and check up office visits, GiGi entertained Trey. She is amazing! I love her!
Here is GiGi playing basketball with Trey! Check out her skills!!
She sent Trey running for his money a few times!
Trey now thinks he wants to be a basketball players. The other day, he was wanting to be a Jonas Brother! What is next?!
Tian and Grandpa Bend
Helping in the Fields
4.17.09
Talk about cheap labor! My dad came home from a work week in Portland and took Trey with he and G.Pa to "help in the fields." Basically, Trey rode along for the ride and watched my Dad turn on the irrigation for the first time! He loves riding on the ATV and spending time with Grandpa Bend!
It is my Grandfather's dream to retire "on the ranch" and enjoy the chores that comes with living on property with cattle and irrigation water. Doesn't G.Pa look content and at peace?!
Tian and I enjoyed the pleasant weather on the lawn.
Doesn't Tian look so mature in his little hoodie? The hoodie was a Bend shopping find prior to the ER visit!(my mom stayed in my car while the boys slept and I shopped! I LOVED it! I got so much accomplished while the boys were in dreamland!) Tian has grown out of his winter clothes, and the weather is just a little too windy for t-shirts and long sleeves, sans a jacket! Thankfully, I had the opportunity to shop; I also stocked up for Easter outfits that will be worn next year! Oh, I can't wait for another year to put the boys in their Easter Outfits!
Hot Tubbing in Grandma's tub
Trey has been taking swimming lessons and wanted to show Grandma Bend his "skills." My parents have a hot tub Trey was planning on demonstrating his skills in, but when they went to get into the hot tub, they realized it had been turned off. (the first night we arrived, the electricity went out in my parents home, and must have tripped my parents hot tub.) My mom, being the cleaver one, decided to turn her jacuzzi tub into a hot tub. Trey and Derek loved "swimming" in their swim shorts through the bubbles of the tub! Tian even joined in the fun!

Trey the Tutor
On our way to church Easter Sunday, Trey asked, "Mom, can I be a tutor?" (referring to one of Derek's tutors.) I said, "You can pretend to be."
Trey took this a little to the extreme. He always enjoys interacting with Derek's tutors, and sometimes helping them with Derek's drills, but Trey wanted to be WITH the tutor AND Derek constantly. I believe Trey got on their nerves just a tad.
We found Trey manipulating Derek into sneaking Trey candy, movies and Wii games. Derek will usually say "Yes" to any question, so:
Trey would say, "Derek, can I have some of your Easter Candy? Say 'yes'."
And of course, Derek would say, "Yes."
Trey would come running to me and say, "Derek said I could have some of his Easter candy."
Other times, I caught Trey saying, "Derek, say, 'poop'." OR, "Derek, say, 'pee-pee.'"
Finally, we tried to put a stop to "Trey, the Tutor" and told Trey he doesn't need to be Derek's tutor constantly. Derek doesn't need practice on saying "poop" or "Pee" and that he should just talk to Derek.
Here are some pictures of Trey, the Tutor "working" with Derek.
4 Seasons
There is a saying about Central Oregon: You can experience Sun, Overcast, Rain, or Snow all in one day. This day, while Tian slept the day away, we experienced ALL!
While Tian slept...
This is what happened.
Snow in April?
Trey was so excited to have snow, he ran outside and TRIED to make an igloo. He eventually found there wasn't enough snow to even make a snowball!
