campout

6.20.10
Justin had been promising Trey a "campout" in the play structure for quite some time. Talk about a swell guy, ON a work night, Justin braved the cold in the tiny play structure.

I took this picture about 10 minutes after the boys went off into the dark and mustered enough courage to scale the side of the play structure. They were both already asleep AND slept through the mighty flash of my camera.

memories

I find the human mind so fascinating. I have heard that music is one of the most recognized sounds to the human mind, that is why we can remember songs from elementary school and before. There are memories in my lifetime that are triggered by certain music or bands. The memories are sweet and bring a smile upon my face. This past week, both while driving with my boys in tow, I was taken back in time with two songs which brought me right back to my teenage years.

Every time I hear a Matchbox 20 song, I am reminded of my Senior Year. It was the Winter of 1998 and I was flying with my best friend Linzy Griswold to Hawaii. Matchbox 20 had just debuted their first album, and it was featured on the Airline's music radio station. Everytime I hear the song, which begins with this line: "I wonder what it's like to be the rainmaker...," I am brought back to my Senior trip with my best friend. Sun, shopping, sunbathing, Sweet Rolls and Hawaiian fruit juice comes to mind and I am swept off to Kaui with just a little bit of Matchbox 20.

The second memory is somewhat bittersweet, but is guarenteed to bring me back to an innocent time. It was the Halloween Stake dance of my Freshman year of highschool. I was 14, he was 18, he left his highschool sweetheart when a Pearl Jam song was played and swept me away from his younger brother. We laughed, talked, and swayed our way across the dance floor to the Pearl Jam songs "An Elderly Woman behind the counter of a store in a small town" (I THINK that is it's name. The longest title in song history I think!) and "Can't find a better man," and ironically, at the time, and for many years that followed, I felt in my heart that I could not find a better man than this guy. My youngest brother and he shared the same first name and he always joked that we named Derek after him. If that would have been the case, he would have been a perfect person to name Derek after. He was always kind to others, made everyone feel so special, and truly the Lord's Messenger. Ironically, what my brother Derek has become.

We were later reunited at college. He worked at the college bookstore. I had a boyfriend at the beginning of my freshman year of college and turned down the opportunity to reconnect with Derek. I later thought, "what was I thinking? He was my dream guy" but realized, it was for the best. I wouldn't have ever met Justin, my knight in shining armor, the man who WAS "the better man." Justin and I got engaged the summer Derek and his fiance got married.

2003 I received a phone call from my mom early one morning, before I was to be at work. My mom said on the other line, "I don't want to upset you but there is something I have to tell you. Derek was hit by a semi truck while biking home from work. He died instantly."

Devistation.

He had served a mission, made friends with everyone he had met, made everyone feel as if they were something special, and left a young wife behind.

I have sometimes thought what a better world this was having Derek on it. How many lives he touched, mine was just one of hundreds I am sure.

Music and memories. I love the opportunity I have, during the strangest but most opportune time, to be swept away, for 3 minutes, to a place that was sweet, innocent, and life changing. And then, when the last chord has been played and the music stops, to look back at my smiling boys and realize I am now making memories I will always cherish.

tea party in the park

6.18.10

This month's "tea party" was held in the park with all of our chillens! The children were wild and crazy, running after each other, running AT each other, and eating ONLY the chips and goodies. Not only was this a celebration for us ladies, it was also in celebration of Judie's birthday! Happy "surprise" Birthday Judie!

Judie, the lady of the hour, and Holly. We were told to bring a gift that would be "relaxing and a stress relief to Judie." I was mortified when Judie opened a box of condoms from me, IN FRONT of everyone!
Abbie and Tian. Abbie is an Activity Day girl in my group and my boys adore her.

Treyman and his buddy Jaxon. Jaxon is Abbie's brother. Do you like Trey's head tilt? It is his new pose. I am sure you will be seeing it often!

Trey and Tian waiting for the kids to come rescue them from Base.

Treyman, the big boy. Sitting at the big kids table.

the boys and Cooper

6.17.10
This is what I saw this morning as I was cleaning up from breakfast.
Tian loves Cooper just as much as Trey loves Cooper. The only difference between their love is that Trey is planning Cooper's exit from this world so when he dies, he can get a new dog. So sad but brutally honest.

Activity Days: Be Involved

6.17.10
This weeks Activity days was about being involved in the community. I thought the girls would enjoy putting on a story hour for my boys. Using their greatest reading skill and voices for each character, the girls really got into it. The boys got a little antsy towards the end of three groups reading, BUT, that is boys for 'ya!

slave board?

6.17.10
I received a text from the oldest of my brother's, Robert, before Trey's 5th birday. This is what the text said:

I immediately called Robert and asked, "Excuse me, WHAT is a slave board?"

He meant to write, "Skate Board."

lazy morning

6.16.10
When do my boys ever sleep in? NEVER, until this morning. I thought he would be waking up around 9:30am, so, I took a picture of the clock. Not until 10am did Tian wake up!

He then decided to eat apples outside for breakfast.

Evening with Shaydon

6.16.10
When I had Tian, almost two years ago, Sommers came to my home, picked up Trey, and took him to Planet Kid and McDonalds for a playdate. Sommers was planning on me having quality time with Tian all to my self. She is such a thoughtful friend. It was my time to return the favor this afternoon and Trey couldn't be any more excited. It was one of Trey's first times riding in the middle of the seat which was the coolest thing in his world. The boys went nuts in Carl's Jr. and ran until they were sweaty! At the end of Justin's day, Justin came and played with the boys. I am so grateful for him!

L.O.V.E this picture of Shaydon looking up a Trey. Shaydon and Trey play so well together, even though they are 2.5 years apart.

last day of swimming

The last day of swimming lessons is somewhat bitter sweet! I love watching Trey's improvements, I love visiting with the other mothers, and this year my sister-in-laws, I enjoy watching others interact with Trey, and I love the feeling of Summer beginning. I am always a bit saddened when swimming is over though. It shows Trey is getting older and a little more independent. Along with independence comes school, sports, dating, and marriage! I know, I have a lot of years to look forward to, but I wish our years could just be spent with Trey as a 4.5 year old enjoying swimming lessons!!! That would be my heaven! (have you read or seen the Lovely Bones? If not, that last sentence will mean nothing to you! At least my sthpouse Chelsea Ann will know; we saw the movie together!)

So, with this being the last day of swimming lessons for him, he was able to demonstrate the skills he has learned.

Can you tell Trey LOVES to swim?! It was his turn next to swim to Miss Emily and he wanted to make sure I wouldn't miss a moment!

Here he goes:

And he is off!!!!

Tacy "superman floating"

Floating has never been a fun thing for Trey. He has always had trouble with water in his ears, due to the multiple tubes that have been placed within his ear drums. This Summer was completely different. The water didn't phase him.
I love Trey's little face just poking through the water's surface.
(floating without assistance!)
Tacy floating:
Here is smiling Tacy. She always had a smile on her face.

Tacy and Trey chugging in their "train" down to the diving board. They are just too cute and could ALMOST pass as twins with their goggles on.

Brave, brave Tacy! With a little help from Miss June, Tacy jumped from the diving board and was all smiles.

(look how proud Miss Emily is of you Tacy! You can see it written all over her face.)

Trey this year tried a cannon ball off the diving board; with a little encouraging from his cousins Jacob and Katie of course. As you can see in the following pictures, he didn't quite get both legs underneath him. BUT, I would have admit his splash caused quite a funny face on Miss Emily's face!!! (I am sure she would not appreciate me posting it, BUT I will anyway.)

(see Emily's funny face? Hilarious!)

I worked a graveyard shift on Trey's last day of swimming, therefore, he only had 7 lessons and did not attend the last class! In his 7 lessons, he accomplished enough to pass to the next level of swimming. Advanced Beginning 2 here we come!!!

Waterpark Trip #1

Hands down, one of our favorite places to be in the Summer is the waterpark. Tuesdays are spent with friends, and weekends are spent with family. Today was our first outing to the waterpark and it was a success. Tian spent most of his time with a toy duck in one hand, the other hand swatting at water. Trey enjoyed the big rides with Justin.

Promise, Trey enjoyed himself this afternoon, although this picture might not give him justice. I think he was just bummed the afternoon was coming to a close!
