Sarah's Reception @ the Venue

8.8.08
Sarah knows how to throw the most original reception. Her and her *husband* (which is so strang to say, but now it is the truth!) are in a band, love music, and wanted to incorporate that into their reception. So, they started searching for a music venue, in Boise, to hold the reception in. They found a place, called, The Venue (very original name!) which had a stand and music system. Sarah, Jake and her band were planning on playing for the entertainment.
Next, the tables were lined with white table cloths, which really, REALLY popped when you walked into the dark Venue. There were only black lights. On the serving tables, there were white table cloths and white lights underneath that shown through. Finger foods like Chex Mix, gummy bears, mints, punch, licorice, and mini marshmallows were the hit with Trey. (He eventually threw up at the end of the reception, after eating so much junk and running around as if he was in the circus. Thankfully there was a bucket hidden under the serving tables which I was able to snag right before he puked into my hands. Thankfully, he didn't seem to mind and no one noticed. Sorry Budges if you found Trey's remains!)

The centerpieces were glass vases with water at the bottom, a purple icecube which lit up and a green glowstick hanging out of the vase. LOVED IT!

Everyone was asked to sign a guitar instead of a wedding book.

Guitar for everyone to sign

Little did Jake know that Sarah had arranged for his favorite music artist to come and perform at their reception. I had talked to Sarah's sister Rachel after the sealing ceremony and she told me Colby, the lead singer was going to be at the reception at a certain time. So, we purposely made it to the Venue just in time.

At their reception, Sarah jumped on stage and took the microphone. She had said that she had been planning something for Jake for some time now and had completely forgotten about his birthday earlier in the week. She hoped her surprise would make up for her forgetfulness. She exited the stage, opened a side door, and in walked Colby Stead, Jake's favorite music artist. He was playing "the Wedding March" on a guitar while humming "Happy Birthday" on a harmonica. He wrote a song for the two of them and wished Jake a Happy Birthday. I couldn't see Jake's face, but I am sure it was a sight to see. Of course, I was crying! Sarah is an amazing wife and friend. How caring and sweet for her to get his favorite singer, to come just for their special night!

He and his band (which consisted of Colby's cousin, a cello player, and an acordian player who also sang) played a few songs, and then stayed around for the rest of the reception. They mingled with the guests and took pictures with Sarah and Jake.

Justin loved their music and asked the cello player if they had any CD's with them he could buy. We bought two!

As the reception wrapped up, we all lined the street outside the venue and lit sparklers. Sarah and Jake ran through our line of sparklers, and off to Cancun they go for a wonderful honeymoon!
